Is 1 July 2025 a strict compliance date for the recent 3.50% FWC increase?

24 June 2025

No.

The FWC increase (if applicable) is payable on the “first full pay period” after 1 July 2025. This means that the FWC increase will be implemented differently for each Employer depending on their usual ‘pay day’.

Pay periods can, depending on their applicable Award/EA and/or Contracts of Employment, be weekly, fortnightly or monthly. These are usually expressly defined and cannot be unilaterally changed without sufficient notice.

The following examples illustrate the range of applications.

  1. If the pay period is weekly Monday to Sunday the first full pay period after 1 July 2025 will be the pay period from 7 July to 13 July 2025.

  2. If the pay period is weekly Thursday to Wednesday the first full pay period after 1 July 2025 will be the pay period from 10 July to 16 July 2025.

  3. If the pay period is fortnightly and started on 24 June 2025 the first full pay period after 1 July 2025 will be the pay period starting on 9 July 2025.

  4. If the pay period is fortnightly and started on 27 June 2025 the first full pay period after 1 July 2025 will be the pay period starting on 12 July 2025.

  5. If the pay period is monthly and started on 26 June 2025 the first full pay period after 1 July 2025 will be the pay period starting on 25 July 2025
