Labor’s Reform Agenda – Our Take

2023 marked the first real year of significant IR changes since the introduction of the Fair Work Act. The Labor government has certainly indicated (and already implemented) a far more interventionist IR approach than we have seen for some time.

Employers have already voiced their concerns. The full extent of such changes are yet untested and largely unknown, but we will start to see the impact of such changes as decisions start to be determined in FWC and the courts in 2024.

To assist, we have provided a checklist for Retainer clients of all the recent changes covered by the Secure Jobs Better Pay and Closing the Loopholes legislation (and those still to come).

Action Items for Managers:

  • Review the checklist

  • Keep up to date with the Secure Jobs Better Pay and Closing the Loopholes legislation and commentary as they are discussed in various media outlets

  • Prepare for implementation
